50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DIRECTORS OF VOCATIONS IN THE PHILIPPINES

Background

The First National Convention of Vocation Directors and Directresses was held on May 20-22, 1974 wherein the Directors of Vocations in the Philippines (DVP) was formally organized. Ever since, it has become the arm of the Episcopal Commission on Vocations as the official organization of Vocation Directors and Directresses. Through their joint efforts, ECV-DVP has pursued relevant and effective programs for the promotion of vocations and fostering a culture of vocations in the country. The 2024 National Convention of Vocation Directors and Directresses marks the 50th anniversary of the Directors of Vocations in the Philippines (DVP). In celebration of this milestone, the ECV and officers of the DVP have approved the conduct of the First National Vocation Festival.

Theme and Logo

The 50th-anniversary celebration of the DVP will be hosted by the Diocese of Imus while within a four-year synod on synodality. In this light, the celebration will center on four variables: vocations, synodality, and encounters with the faith experience of Filipinos, specifically, Caviteños. Thus, the 50th Anniversary of the Directors of Vocations in the Philippines will be:

Filipino

PISTANG BOKASYON:

Sa tawag ng Mabuting Pastol, sama-samang magmimisyon!

Tena’t Magkarakol!

English

VOCATION FESTIVAL:

At the call of the Good Shepherd, in the mission, we participate!

Tena’t Magkarakol!

Religious festivals or fiestas are central to the faith experience of every Filipino Catholic. Regardless of their backgrounds, the community is joined in celebrating their patron and giving thanks to God. The Caviteños have a distinct way of celebrating their fiestas, which we can see everywhere in Cavite, may it be a chapel fiesta or the feast of the Diocesan Patron. The Karakol has been a valuable expression of faith for the faithful in Cavite. As devotees and believers dance to the rhythm, they accompany each sway and movement with a prayer of petition and thanksgiving. Ordinands even dance the Karakol before or after their ordination to give thanks to the God who has graced them with his vocation. And our model in responding to the vocation we are called to is no other than the Good Shepherd. A Shepherd guides his flock toward the green pastures and protects them from any harm. Thus, we trust and model ourselves to the Good Shepherd who shepherds us in our vocations. And we may have different vocations, we are united by the universal call to holiness. A part of this universal call is our participation in the mission of the Church, the Church that journeys with us and we journey with under the care of the Good Shepherd.

We can observe our faithfulness to the theme and its message in our logo made by Jolo Petil from Mendez, Cavite, and developed by our Working Committee on Creatives and Marketing.
